Hello, I'm Benwei - a Singapore-born poet and an undergraduate at the University of Oxford studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics. I run Gasoline&Sugar, my personal poetry project that's been running for 4 years now. Shuttling between Southeast Asia and the UK provides me with a unique worldview that I carry across in my poetry, which is rich in imagery and dreamy or fantastical in tone. It is also a logistical blessing for event organisers who can book me in either Singapore or London, or adjacent cities in Asia and Europe for a travel fee. During your event, which can be anything from a private party, corporate event, or wedding, I'll set up with my Japanese-made 1970s Nakajima typewriter and have a quick conversation with any guest who'd like a custom poem from me. They can either give me individual words as inspiration or tell me about a personal story they'd like a custom poem about. Following this, I take a few minutes to write and hand them their completed poem, which is usually around 4-6 lines long. Given the nature of this highly personalised experience, I can complete around 15 poems an hour. Very few things would be better as a keepsake than a customised poem written specially for your guest. I ensure that your event will stand out and be remembered.
